UN Women China Office Delegation visits Changsha

A delegation led by UN Women China Office Representative Smriti Aryal visited Changsha on May 6. They came to inspect the city's endeavor to build a women-friendly city.

The delegation inspected the Changsha Women's and Children's Home where they visited the Changsha Women's and Children's One-stop Service Center, the "Child-Friendly Home", the Changsha 12338 Women's and Children's "One-stop" Rights Protection and Care Center, the Party Building Cohesion Studio, and the International Women's and Children's Exchange Center, and learned in detail about functional settings and roles of these places. A symposium was convened afterwards. Smriti Aryal shared the experience in building international women-friendly cities, and discussed with persons in charge of the Changsha Women's Federation about the ways and methods of promoting the construction of a women-friendly city in Changsha, as well as the highlights of work and future planning in this regard.

In 2021, Changsha took the lead in the country in proposing the idea of building a women-friendly city. In recent years, Changsha has been actively exploring the integration of women-friendly concepts into the whole process of urban planning, construction, and management. In addition, the city has released an initiative for women-friendly city construction, demonstrating its women-friendly urban attitude through warm actions. The city is home to more than 3,600 women's federations, 1,600 women's homes, 960 women's micro homes, 4,600 women's groups, 29,000 women's federations' executive committees, more than 30,000 female volunteers, and over 10,000 online service groups of women's federations. More than 10,000 mass theme activities have been organized, allowing the majority of women to breathe the same air as the city and make progress together with the city.
