As extreme summer heat grips Changsha, the Heping Xincun community in the city's Furong District has launched a closed-loop care system for gig economy workers — food delivery riders, courier drivers, and other "new employment groups" . The initiative combines a street-friendly rest-stop map, free summer childcare, and hands-on practice classes, turning delivery workers from "senders" of urban services into "receivers" of community care.
The community released a neighborhood map marking rest stations, hydration points, and convenience merchants, while partnering with local businesses to distribute 100 heat-relief care kits. A 20-day free summer daycare program — "Furong Duoduo" — enrolled 48 children of gig workers, with classes on health, financial literacy, and safety co-organized by Hunan Provincial Maternal and Child Health Hospital and Bank of Changsha. Through its "Miaomiao Youban" brand, the community has run over 30 field-trip and practice events this year, serving more than 3,000 people across 200-plus families.
