The dragon boat first appeared as a trial run during China's May Day holiday, generating viral attention on Chinese social media before officially entering service. Tickets are priced at 68 yuan (approximately $9.50) per person, with half-price discounts for seniors over 60 and children under 1.2 meters. Sailings run daily from 6:30 PM to 9:10 PM, departing every 40 minutes. The route connects Festival Island Pier to the Meilanfang commercial district, linking waterfront landmarks along the way. For urban planners and city designers worldwide, the project offers a case study in how Chinese cities are reimagining nighttime public space — not by building standalone entertainment districts, but by layering culturally resonant experiences onto existing architectural assets, turning a lake already framed by international design into a living stage after dark. The operator, Meixi Lake Public Water Sports Center, plans to develop further cultural and leisure experiences on the lake.
