Zeng Qitian began practicing martial arts at just 3 years old. Now 17, the Changsha teen has spent 14 years with Taijiquan, becoming a seventh-generation inheritor of Yang Style Taijiquan and a fourth-generation inheritor in the Chu Guiting lineage. He has also won provincial Taijiquan titles in Hunan for two consecutive years.
For Zeng, passing on tradition does not mean leaving it unchanged. While joining his family in promoting this living heritage, he also hopes to use short videos and social media to introduce Taijiquan — better known in the West as Tai Chi — to more young people.
From the training hall to the digital world, China’s Gen Z is giving an ancient tradition a new voice.
